The Professor was a proud, hard working man who was able to accomplish anything. Any man who can make a telephone out of some wire and two coconuts has to be pretty proud of himself, but his pride was his corruption. The professor was arrogant. In his own mind, he was far more superior than the rest of the other castaways: After all, Gilligan was just a boy; Mr. Howell was a weak old man,and the Skipper was a failure because he got them shipwreaked in the first place. As far as the girls go, the professor was ignorant and sexist (although he did considered himself a "Ladies Man." ) His pride, confidence, and intelligence got him power, making him the leader and self-proclaimed dictator of the island. His projects got to his head, making him impossible to work with. Making it impossible for them to leave.
